Adventure Playground Rebuild at Oasisplay

Oasisplay – Stockwell, London

Rebuilding an essential facility for the children in Stockwell, London…

We are looking for companies and groups to support an exciting HandsOn project for the Oasisplay charity.

Oasisplay is a Lambeth-based charity focused on the community around Stockwell and Oval (Oasis Adventure Playground, 33 Priory Grove, London SW8 2PD).

One of the most diverse and deprived communities in London, their aim is to provide innovative and inclusive outdoor play and learning opportunities; enabling disabled and non-disabled children and young people to lead active, happy, fulfilled lives.

The charity has been fully inclusive for 12 years.

In an area that lacks safe, outdoor spaces…

the local children suffer from a severe nature-deficit and inactive lives. Oasisplay run four amazing spaces to get children and young people outside and active – an Adventure Playground, Nature Garden, Youth-led Karting Track and a playground specifically designed for those with additional needs but open to all.

However, the main play structure at the centre of the site – an absolute favourite of the children as it got them climbing, running, hiding and leaping – has been decommissioned and partly taken down as it has reached the end of its life. Not only has this caused much disappointment among children and reduced the amount of highly active play, but it also means a significant amount of play space is currently unusable.

Design workshops with the children…

We recently ran some design workshops with the children of Oasisplay to get some ideas for their playground rebuild.

Thank you to PRELOADED for lending us all the iPads to help run these workshops!

The BIG picture.

Oasis have applied for several grants and have been fundraising internally and have managed to secure £30k, mostly from the London Marathon Charitable Trust’s Active Spaces Fund, towards a total build estimate of £70k to £80k.

A big part of being awarded this grant is to engage the children and young people in the design process this is something we at HandsOn have experience with, so are looking to design over this next couple of months in some design workshops with a view to removing the old and building a new inclusive play structure to meet all requirements in Spring 2024.

Treehouse for the children’s nature garden

Previous HandsOn project with Oasisplay

This project is also a continuation of the work HandsOn has previously done at Oasisplay. In October 2023, with the support and funding by the London teams at St. James Place plc, we built a wonderful new treehouse and slide in the grounds of this children’s nature playground, splendidly managed by staff and volunteers of Oasisplay.
